In the morning, there were presentations by nine Ph.D students. They did well. All the teachers and students showed themselves including me. In the afternoon, I went to see an otorhinolaryngologist to have my nose checked. On the way back, I filled up the tank of mini, too. After coming back to my office, I was discussing with a student of mine, who is in the second grade of a master course. He is having hard times finding employment next spring after his graduation. In Japan, students look for employment during their school days, and start working right after the graduation. If they cannot find a job before graduation, it could … Continue reading
From the early morning, I have been carrying out experiments with a student of mine and a researcher from Panasonic. By our side, a professor from Keio University was doing his with my colleague. When I had time, I was writing a paper, too. Students came to me once in a while to ask me how to submit their abstracts and register themselves with the conference (actually, the registration procedure was very complicated). I got so tired after these three day. When I came home, Katya started talking with her parents on Skype. Mariya was on a new foam-plastic matress we bought at Babies “R” Us in Odaiba. Katya … Continue reading
From yesterday, I have been working with Shimadzu and Panasonic researchers in my lab. Pretty tiring because I have little time to rest. Shimadzu researchers left this evening, but Panasonic researchers stay until tomorrow. Tomorrow, a professor from Keio University arrives to carry out another experiments. I was pretty exhausted when I arrived home. Katya made a lot of spaghetti, and I finished it all.
I was working with researchers from Shimadzu and Panasonic; very busy. Today’s Mariya’s 7-month old birthday. We celebrated her birthday.
I was busy today with two lectures. In the evening, I was running out for a meeting. I jumped and broke my iPhone 5 I bought with Katya last December. I did not know that the screen was so fragile. Other than the screen, it worked, but I need to replace it to a new one, anyway. I got shocked. After I came back home, we had deliveries. BODY SHOP bottles from the director of our institute, for whom we held a party for his awards. Wines I bought at “Tomi no Oka” on Sunday. I am looking forward to trying them.
Today is Monday. I had to check e-mails to answer to the requests. Besides, three of my students sent me abstracts for a conference in San Francisco scheduled at the end of October. I discussed with them and they finished writing. The submission deadline is Friday. I came back home and watched Columbo on TV. Columbo is always nice to watch. I do not like CSI in which too many murders happen to show dead bodies.
It is Sunday today. There is a Suntory Winery, “Tomi no Oka” on the hill of Kai City next to Kofu. Katya and I went there for lunch with Mariya. We passed by the winery to the restaurant. There were not so many cars. We walked to the restaurant. At the restaurant, “Wine Terrace“, we took seats outside. Katya and Mariya sat in the shadow under a tree. From the tree, a snake of a meter and a half dropped down by them! The snake was let go, and Katya changed the seat. Katya had fish and I had beef. Eating out under a blue sky was pleasant. … Continue reading
Katya sent me an e-mail telling that Nishikori was beaten by Andujar in Madrid Open yesterday. In the evening, Katya, Mariya and I went to a Sushi restaurant, “Nigiri no Tokube” in Shikishima. It was rainy. Katya was holding Mariya in her arms in the restaurant. Mariya was mainly playing with a small soy-sauce saucer. We had many plates of sushi. Mariya had been a very good girl in the restaurant as usual.
During the lunch break, I found that Nishikori had beaten Federer in Madrid Open yesterday. When I came back home, the game was on the TV. They were playing the last game. Federer did not play well, so I was not too happy for Nishikori, although he sure is a hard worker.
There was a welcome party of a research group in the institute. I went into a narrow side street, “Chochin Yokocho” near Kofu Station. I walked up into a building. Looks weird. We had the party at Monojiya. They made the inside old and cheap as in the 60s. The party started at 7 PM. I sneaked out at 8 PM to see Katya and Mariya.
