Seminar in Shimosuwa
Katya, Mariya, Maya-san and I left our apartment for Shimosuwa at 4:30 PM. Katya drove me to Shimosuwa Production Support Center directly for my talk. She then went to my parents’, left Maya-san, and, with Mariya, went to see her Ukrainian friend living in Shimosuwa. In the seminar, eleven people came to listen to me, who were managers and engineers of small industrial companies in/around Shimosuwa. They wanted to have some hints of the business in the near future. My talk started at 6:30 and ended at 8:30 PM, with many questions. It seemed that they had understood me. The director asked a visit of some of the members to our institute … Continue reading
Trip to Hatsushima schedules during the weekend
In the morning, the mailing system was still down. Therefore, I used telephones and my private mailing address for the communication. Fortunately, the mailing system recovered in the afternoon. I suddenly got busy I kept working on preparing my presentation scheduled in Shimosuwa tomorrow evening. I finished the abstract and have sent it to the organizer of the meeting. Tomorrow, everyone in the family, Katya, Maya-san, Mariya, and me, will go and stay at my parents’ in Shimosuwa. Then we go on to a two-night trip to Hatsushima, our favorite island. It will be the first long trip for Mariya, who will see the ocean.

No mails at school
Our mailing system for the teachers and the office workers (only) in the university was somewhat tied up. I worked all day without an e-mail, which was weird; I was nervous whether I miss some important information. I was invited to give a talk for company managers and engineers in Shimosuwa, my hometown. I asked my parents if they wanted to come, but they hesitated. Anyway, I started working on the presentation, which requires no internet connection. It will be a two-hour talk for non-specialists, my first experience in my life.

Another Monday
I received an e-mail from a person in the governmental office in charge of my project, telling me that they had received my answer sheet. It will be passed to the judges on the 27th. Another e-mail arrived from a friend of mine in France with a paper attached; a Chinese student of his lab did the job in our institute while he was here and wrote the paper. I will check it soon. In the afternoon, I taught a class. Another e-mails and another jobs not accomplished last week. Typical Monday.

Saturday presentation
Today’s Saturday. In the morning, there were monthly presentations by students, which ended at noon. A student of mine, who got sick in the lab, did his turn, too. He did well. However, I try not to have him work too much. I went back home at 5:30 PM, then Katya went out for shopping. I was with Mariya, who was mostly sleeping. I wished she had been a little bit active with me.

Mariya’s inspection and Answer sheet submission
In the morning, I woke up at 3 AM to finish the answers to the judges of my project. I need to submit the answer sheet today. In the afternoon, Katya and I took Mariya to Nagasaka Clinic for her one-month inspection. Mariya was very healthy, although she cried because she became hungry after the wait. Katya and I felt somewhat tired, too. I asked the doctor whether we can take Mariya for a trip. He said OK if we use a baby seat. We have one; we could go on a trip next week. After the inspection, I came back to my office. I submitted my answer sheet. I hope … Continue reading

Happy Birthday, Mariya, on the One-month Old Birthday
In the morning, I finished two real-estate meetings in Tokyo. The first one was in Shinjuku. The second one in Honan-cho. Then, there was a editorial meeting of a scientific journal in Tokyo Institute of Technology in Tamachi. The editorial meeting ended earlier than scheduled; I left Shinjuku station at 4:30 PM. Today’s Mariya’s one-month old birthday. Happy birthday, Mariya!

Questions from the judges
I will carry out the oral presentation on November 27th for the midterm judgement of my project. If the judges do not like the results I show to them, there is even a possibility of the stoppage of the project, which has principally been scheduled to continue until 2015. I have already submitted my report. Today there came questions from the judges after reading my report. Only three questions were posed to me, They were not very difficult to answer to. I started working on answering to those questions with including new results in order to impress the judges. The answering sheet is due Friday.

Visitors to the institute
Thirty scientists from abroad visited our institute. I helped them with the lab tour. One of them from the Netherlands was very interested in my research, and he will get in touch with me after coming back home. I hope it will be a fruitful collaboration.

Russian instrument and presents
An instruction started today of the new Russian instrument I had chosen. It seems to be a good one. In the evening, I taught English to some students in the institute. After the lesson, they gave presents to Mariya; a towel and clothes. I passed them to Katya. Towels are always useful for a baby.
