Visit to Tokiwa Hotel on a Monday day off

Yesterday was Showa Day, a holiday. and happened to be Sunday. So today, Monday,  we had a day off in lieu. I took Katya to Tokiwa Hotel for a buffet lunch to show the beautiful garden I saw yesterday. The same employee kindly took pictures of us in front of the hotel.    Buffet was OK, but not special. The service was bad: empty plates were left on our table without being collected.    Even though, the view from the window was pleasant. We took a walk after lunch in the garden.    The stage of the wedding yesterday was all cleared. The hotel has an annex specially designed and … Continue reading

Wedding in Tokiwa Hotel, Kofu

I left home for Tokiwa Hotel, the most prestigious hotel in Kofu,  for the wedding. It was built in 1929. When I was taking a picture of the front view of the building, I was asked by an employee of the hotel to post an article on the blog if I have one (for a free commercial, of course). I said yes I have one and I would. When I entered the hotel, I was astonished by the Japanese garden seen through the big windows of the lobby. The wedding was held in the garden, which was a perfect idea, except that the temperature in Kofu raised up to 30 degree … Continue reading

Friend arrives from Kumamoto

It was a beautiful day. Dogwood was beautiful in the garden of the institute. Dogwoods were sent to Japan from Washington D.C. in1915 after the present of cherry trees from Tokyo in 1912. Dogwoods are now seen all over Japan. In Kofu, they are beautiful in this season of the year. In the evening an ex-colleague of mine came to Kofu from Kumamoto to celebrate the tomorrow’s wedding of my ex-student/present colleague. The ex-colleague from Kumamoto, the other ex-student/present colleague, and I had dinner together at Ohajiki, a well-known chicken restaurant in Kofu. The entrance is very small; you must bend yourself down to get in.    The chickens are of Yamanashi … Continue reading

Another welcome party

I think Japanese drink together a lot. This could be because that we are very suppressed by the society and that drinking together releases the tension. The rule: “When drinking, any talk is forgiven and forgotten” . There was another party to welcome newcomers to our research group. I think that  the welcome parties are too many this year, but I joined today’s party only to show my face. It was held at “Bang Bang“.       The party started at 8 PM. I sneaked out before 9 PM and left for home.

Two Classes on Tuesday

Tuesday is a busy day. From 9 AM, I have a 1.5-h class for graduate students. There is one Nepali student who does not speak Japanese, so I mix Japanese and English to teach. Maybe I should try one day a class only in English to see how the other Japanese students understand. There is a scientific meeting from 10:40 AM to 12:40 PM. Then, I teach undergraduate students the basic of electronics from 1 PM to 2:30 PM. I have lunch after the class, if I have time to. Today, there was a meeting with a professor and two students from 3 PM, so I managed to have lunch.

Muravej’s birthday, 2012

In the morning, Katya and Maya-san kissed my happy birthday. I took Maya-san out for a morning walk, while Katya prepared breakfast. Katya bought me a Starbucks’ tumbler with a green-tea macaron. The tumbler should be useful, and we can use them together. Katya bought cakes yesterday, and we had them for breakfast, too. Then we went out for a walk together. On the pathway, a cherry blossom tunnel is made, but unfortunately, the blossoms were almost gone. It was a pleasant walk, anyway, then it started raining.  We got into Smart and went to a Starbucks coffee house. I filled up the tumbler for free as Katya did. We … Continue reading

Saturday Meeting and Afternoon Hospital

We have students’ presentations once a month on Saturday in our institute. Today was the day. It started at 9 AM and ended at 11:45 AM. For the final talk, a German student now staying here showed what he had accomplished in his university in Denmark.  It was very interesting. In June, I am receiving a Chinese student from France. World has become small. In the afternoon, I went to see an ophthalmologist to buy my lenses.  I washed and drove my mini after a long while. It was fun. The lenses were not available, so I will go and get them next week. Then I worked till 7 PM and came back … Continue reading
