In the morning, I came back home for a short while for the inspection of fire alarms in the apartment. Otherwise, I was working on the documents in front of my PC in my office.
At 2:46 PM, the earthquake started. I instantly noticed that it was unusual; the frequency was too long. I felt as if I were on a boat. It stopped and restarted. I imagined it could be a very big one, although I kept working, thinking what happens happens.
After the earthquake stopped, I received a call to my office phone. It was Katya. She said the cell phone was not working. She must have felt very scared. She told me she was hiding herself in a car with holding Maya-san. Knowing the restriction of the cell phone use, I now noticed how big the earthquake was.
Internet news was no so fast. TV and radio must have been giving the news faster. Internet gradually started to show the disaster.
After I came back home, Katya told me her parents were very worried. She received a lot of e-mails, too, asking about how she was.
Fortunately for us, the earthquake gave little harm to Kofu. The intensity was 5 on the Japanese scale, which is large but not disastrously large.
However, I was once living in Sendai, one of the most damaged cities, for more than 10 years. I know the places on TV and felt very sorry.
