Back to Kofu, Sunday May 6, the last day of Golden Week
In the morning, I woke up alone to take a hot spring spa. Katya and I had breakfast in “Oceano” on the first floor in XIV Hatsushima. After breakfast, Katya went to the esthetic salon. I was watching TV, waiting for her to return. She was satisfied with the treatment. We had cakes at the hotel lounge, checked out, and took a bus to the harbor. Katya bought souvenirs for my parents at a shop by the harbor. We then said good-by to Hatsushima on “Isle de vacances II”. After arriving at Atami, we went to the parking lot, picked our Smart, and drove to Shimosuwa. We only stopped … Continue reading

Constitution Day in Shimosuwa
Today is Constitution Day. I worked in the morning. At 3:30 PM, we left for Shimosuwa with Russian soup, salad, and Chili. We arrived at my parents’ before dinner. Anju, my sister’s dog, was there to welcome us. Mom prepared a wooden tub of sushi rice with a variety of ingredients sprinkled on. It became a big dinner. Maya-san was enviously watching us.

A walk in Tokyo
We woke up late and arrived at the restaurant for breakfast at 9:30 AM. “We will have a wedding party from 12 PM. The restaurant will be closed at 10 AM.”, they said at the entrance. So we rushed to the dishes for breakfast. It was a busy breakfast, although the view of Tokyo from the windows was good. After the breakfast, I bought presents for the anniversary and gave them to Katya. Tokyo Marathon was held today. Katya and I watched the race. A Japanese runner, Arata Fujiwara, made a good race to win the silver medal. We then checked out and headed for the Imperial palace. I was thinking … Continue reading

Celebrating Wedding Anniversary in Tokyo
We have been married for four years. We had a petite honey moon in XIV Tateshina. Since then, we have been celebrating our wedding, staying there, having dinner in the same French restaurant. This year, to my surprise, a room could not be reserved even in the middle of winter. So we decided to stay in Hotel New Otani in Tokyo. It used to be one of the most prestigious hotels in Japan (now, it is not extremely expensive). In the morning, Katya and I took Maya-san to my parents. Anju was there left by my sister, who are also travelling with my niece. Maya-san and Anju were getting along … Continue reading

kick-off meeting for the project successfully ended
In the morning, I was preparing for the kick-off meeting. The meeting started at 1:30 PM. Three governmental bureaucrats arrived. In all, there were 26 people. I was chairing the meeting. I gave a talk about the general purpose of the project and the research plans. I also gave a small talk about what to do in our institute under my supervision. The meeting ended at 5 PM. Then I gave a tour of the institute. The three bureaucrats went back to Tokyo by taxi. I think the meeting was successful, but I do not know how they felt because they are bureaucrats. Rest of the members moved to Sadoya … Continue reading

A one-night trip to Shimosuwa
At 5 PM, I took Maya-san in mini and drove to Shimosuwa where my parents live (and I was born). I took a highway (highways in Japan are not toll-free). I dropped by Yatsugatake service area. Maya-san sniffed around. Venturing out seemed to be stimulating her. From the service area was seen the combination of a highway and rice fields. We arrived at my parents’ at 7 PM. Anju was there to avoid heat. She welcomed me. Maya-san was happy with my parents, not with Anju. Maya-san and Anju know each other, but they are not the best friends. However, they played sometimes together. Unlike Anju, Maya-san has her own … Continue reading

One-night trip to Shimosuwa
At 5PM, I took Maya-san in mini and drove to Shimosuwa, where my parents live (and I was born). I took a highway. We dropped by Yatsugatake service area. Maya-san sniffed around. She has been staying home most of the time, so venturing out seemed to be stimulating her. From the service area was seen the combination of a highway and rice fields. At my parents’, Anju was there to avoid the summer heat. Anju and Maya-san said hello. They are now sort of friends, although they still insist on showing their territories and priorities. Maya-san was happy to see my parents, too. Maya-san naturally looked outside during the nights … Continue reading
