Autumnal Equinox Day, 2012

It is Autumnal Equinox Day today. Katya and I went to Red Lobster for a late lunch.    After the lunch, Katya and I went to “Fishland Ishihara” to learn how to decorate a sea-water fish tank. Then Katya, Maya-san, and I went for a walk together.

Shisendo in Kyoto

In the morning, we had a discussion in Shimadzu; the work’s then over. After arriving at Kyoto station from Keihanna, I took a bus to Shisendo, a residence of a scholar in the 17th century. I like the place and have been visiting it once in a while.       It is a small place with few visitors. The garden is very small but beautiful. It is very comfortable to be in there. I stayed there for half an hour, sitting on the tatami floor. Then I took a bus back to Kyoto station. From Kyoto, I took a bullet train and got off at Nagoya station. In a small … Continue reading

Trip to see my ex-student in Yamagata prefecture

An ex-student of mine, to whom I tutored French when I was a university student, is now running a small company in Shinjo, Yamagata prefecture. Today, I took a break and visited his firm. I woke up at 5:30 in the morning. I went to my office to check e-mails. Then, I rode my bike to Kofu Station. I took an express “Azusa” at 7:24 AM to Tachikawa. In the train, I took a Filet-O-Fish set. I changed trains and trains and finally took a bullet train from Omiya to Shinjo.    The train once stopped at Fukushima Station, when, I confess, I felt uneasy. I arrived at the Shinjo Station … Continue reading

One-day business trip to Osaka

The train left Kofu at 8:43 AM. I went to Panasonic in Osaka for a discussion about my instruments. I arrive there at 2 PM. Three of my students took a bus for seven hours from Kofu to Osaka yesterday. They said taking a bus eventually costs less even staying in a hotel. The discussion ended at 4.30 PM. I took octopus balls at the station near the Panasonic building. The bullet train left Shin-Osaka station at 5:40 PM. I changed trains to Kofu. I arrived home at 10:30 PM. I was on a train most of my time today.

Last day of the conference

I checked out the hotel and walked to the convention center. I was there till 2 PM, and left  for Hamamatsu Station. I bought tickets to Kofu via Shizuoka. I took a bullet train to Shizuoka and changed to “Fujikawa” an express train, which runs on Minobu line. Minobu line was destroyed by a typhoon on September 21, 2011 and had not been used till March 17, 2012. In the train, there was an announcement telling how the railways were repaired. Fujikawa is known for its switchback. I arrived in Kofu at 6 PM. Katya and Maya-san came to pick me up. At home, I gave Katya green-tea puddings. They tasted … Continue reading

First day of the conference

I woke up and called to Nagoya station, asking about my suitcase left in a bullet train. “Sorry, the store room opens at 1 PM”. I did not know why they close it till afternoon, but I told them that I would call again in the afternoon. I had breakfast and left the hotel. I walked to the convention center “ACT CITY HAMAMATSU“. The problem was that I was going to chair the first four talks at the conference in the morning. A student of my institute let me use his jacket, so I did not look so humble as a chairman. I stayed listening to the presentations in the … Continue reading

Business trip to Kyoto, March 4, 2012

It is Sunday today. I am planning to carry out experiments in Kyoto with three students for two days from tomorrow. I first took a bullet train to Kyoto Station. I changed the JR line to the Kintetsu Kyoto Line. I got off at Shin-Hosono Station, where I took a bus to Keihanna Plaza Hotel. I was hungry and took a bowl of boeuf bourgignon. The room was small with one bed, but comfortable enough. I will take a rest and will start working from tomorrow morning.
