Christmas Cards

Today’s Emperor’s Birthday.  In the afternoon, I came back home from the office and took Maya-san for a walk with Katya to Takeda Shrine. Trees are naked. Maya-san started to dig a hole.  Shadows were long even at 2:30 PM. In the evening, we went out to play tennis. We wanted to try a clay court, but we found out they are out of order till next year.  So we went to play on the omni court again,  this time from 7 to 9 PM.  The temperature was about 10 C.  Light was bright. It was a good condition for tennis. Two Christmas cards have arrived: one from Russia from … Continue reading

Soka Rice Crackers

My former student lives in Soka City, Saitama.  They produce very famous rice crackers.  He brought two boxes of good ones for me yesterday. We opened one.  Yes, he did buy us good ones.  They were baked in a proper way, and they go very well with strong green tea. His mother gave me a sweater, too. Today, I sent an e-mail to him, and a thank-you post card to his mother. Katya and I are planning to give the other box to my parents when we leave Maya-san on the day of Christmas.

Early Winter in Kiyosato

After taking Maya-san for a walk, we drove to “Kiyosato no Mori“.  Winter has come. With the temperature of 5 C, Maya-san was busy digging. Then we moved to “Sun Meadows Kiyosato Ski Resort“, which is planned to be open for ski on December 18. We were the only ones to visit the place today. We went to look at the slope and the lift station. With the temperature of 2 C, Maya-san was busy digging by the snow. We are planning to ski on a different mountain on the Christmas day. The slope on the mountain is partially ready for skiing. We hope there will be more snow.

Takeo Moriyama Quintet

I dropped by at my parking lot on the way to my office. On the right side of my mini, I found the mini that used to be on the left side of mine. The owner must have changed his mind to keep it at the same parking lot again. It was a small pleasure in the morning. In the evening, we took Smart for the jazz concert in “Sakura-za” theater , which we had planned to attend. We took a quick dinner of a salad and sandwiches at Papas Cafe at Okajima department store. In Okajima department store, a Christmas tree made of plastic bottles was displayed. It looked … Continue reading

Tetsuro Kawashima Quartet

In the afternoon, I took smart to YANASE Kofu for the 12th-month inspection. They let me use their car for one day during the inspection. This car is much too bigger than Smart, and I feel less comfortable. In the evening, Katya and I went to a Jazz concert of Tetsuro Kawashima Quartet held in the civic hall of Koku.  Kawashima is a popular sax player. The concert was supported by Kofu city, thus the ticket cost only 1,000 yen each. We went to the concert last year, too.  This year, the rest of all three members, pianist, drummer, and bass player, except Kawashima, have changed. The new members with Kawashima … Continue reading

Second Day – Great Nagoya –

My student did a good job in his presentation. He will be graduated in March 2012 and is already looking for his future job.  We had lunch together with a guy working for Toyota, which is originally a Nagoya company.  Having lunch together guarantees nothing.  I told my students to ask many questions at the conference to impress the Toyota guy.  Yes, he did ask many questions.  But it does not guarantee anything, either. The economy is still bad.  He needs to try as much as he can. Nagoya is a kitsch place.  Foods are good, but they are kitsch (hard to explain).  They name things differently, too. I had … Continue reading
