New instrument is coming
I have been interested in a Russian instrument for my new experiments. Luckily, we got a budget for an instrument with the same function. The exact company has not been decided; a couple of them are expected to give us presentations of their own. The Russian instrument has a probability, too, because the instrument possesses many unique experimental modes. Two professors and I checked a room for the installation. The room was OK for the expected experiments. The choice of the company (and the precise instrument) should be made in June. Tomorrow, I will explain the specifications for the instrument.

Two business meetings in Tokyo
I left my apartment at 4 AM for my office in the institute. I checked my e-mails, finished working with some documents, and went to Kofu station by bike for two meetings scheduled to be held in Tokyo. Since Marunouchi line in Tokyo was not running till 9 AM, because of an electricity break down, I arrived at the first place in Shinjuku 20 minutes late. There, I carried out some experiments using the Russian instrument I am interested in. I explained the information I needed to Russian and Japanese operators of the instrument. Then they started the experiments. I was there with them and left the building at 2 AM. … Continue reading

Experiments in Kyoto
I woke up and had breakfast in the hotel. The three students are staying in the same place. We walked together to “Shimadzu Keihanna Laboratory“, where the subleader of my project is working. It took only 10 minutes from the hotel. The Shimadzu researchers have already designed new cells, and the parts for the cells have arrived from manufacturing companies. We brought some other materials to construct the cells together. We started working from 9 AM. We kept working till 5:30 PM. The results were not satisfactory to me; I give B-. The subleader told me that they had reserved dinner for us in a restaurant, Kanseikyo, in our hotel. … Continue reading

Busy days continue and company treats us
Many things must be done and completed these days. It has been a busy day again today. In the evening, a company sending three Ph. D students to our institute invited us to a Chinese dinner in Konaya Hotel; I am instructing one of them. It was a good dinner. They even gave us a cake as a souvenir. However, I missed time to work this evening, which is not happy with me.

Lamborghini hit by Toyota
In the morning, I picked my Lamborghini the bike from the parking space. I was talking with a neighbor of mine, while his wife drove backward her red Toyota. I thought she would stop, but no, the car hit my bicycle. I fell down, too. I was not injured but you can see the front wheel is destroyed. In the afternoon, an insurance company called me to talk about the accident. I will take the bicycle to a bike shop, and the shop owner and the insurance company will talk. In the evening while I was still working, the man and his wife came to leave some sweets for me. … Continue reading
Business trip to Tokyo
From 10:30 AM, there was a meeting in Shibuya for the coming governmental funds. I had been asked to join by the governmental office who gives money, so I went there. It was boring, but I found out one thing: the government is trying to focus more and more on the application studies than the fundamental researches. I do not like application researches. In my mind, there is a feeling that application is for money, which should be done by companies. I am a scholar, who seek for the truth. I know I need to carry out both fundamental and application researches to be funded, but I wish I could concentrate … Continue reading

Earthquake, Dohshinboh by mini, Submission of a paper
At about 7:40 AM, there was an earthquake. Although it was a Saturday morning, Katya woke up. Maya-san kept sleeping. I soon understood that the earthquake itself might not be a big one because the frequency of the shake was high. Even though, the vibration was rather large, meaning that the location of the earthquake might be close to Kofu. The quake stopped, and restarted twice. Katya check the news by her iPad.; the epicenter was near Kofu, close to Mt. Fuji. The magnitude was 5.5, so it was not a big earthquake. Then I went to school to work. At 1 PM, Katya and I met at the parking … Continue reading
