It is Saturday today. I worked till 7 PM. For dinner, I cooked tacos. It was successful. Katya liked them, too.
Katya told me she had taken Maya-san and Mariya out for a walk. Big advance! I went back home to cook a Korean hot pot for dinner. It was OK. The soup is left. I will put noodles in a pot tomorrow for lunch.
The hospital gave Katya a good dinner for celebrating the birth of Mariya. Mariya looks fine. Katya started feeding her. We found that Mariya follows us by the eyes. She tried to grab our fingers. I said to Katya that Mariya could be genius. I brought home a bottle of wine Katya had received.
During the night, I prepared my presentation slides. I changed the story from what I had been thinking, so it took time. I finished the first version of my presentation at 10 AM. Then I went to Hawaii Convention Center to listen to my colleague, who was invited. Then I came back to my room, which was already cleaned. I kept working, upgrading the slides. I went to the meeting room in Hilton at 4 PM. It was a small room with 30 – 40 participants. My presentation started at 5 PM. I am new in this field, and I first talked about the background of my research carefully. Then, … Continue reading
The conference was held in Hilton Hawaiian Village and Hawaii Convention Center. Today, I mostly stayed at the convention center. For lunch, I stepped by a restaurant by Ala Wai Canal In the evening, there was a poster presentation, at which three students presented their posters. I think they did well. I came back to Hilton at 8PM. My presentation will be in the tomorrow afternoon. I am working on it with having an ice-cream bar and a salad for dinner. I will stay up late. .
I got on the plane at 8:30 PM. The plane left Narita at 9:15 PM. I was sleepy and decided to sleep instead of working, but it was not very successful; I slept for one or two hours. More than 90% of the passengers was Japanese. The plane arrived at 9 AM in Honolulu. I found a colleague of mine. We took a shuttle bus to Hilton Hawaiian Village. It was a fine, pleasant day. I arrived at the hotel at 10 AM, but I needed to wait until 11 AM for the room to be ready. The room in Tapa Tower is standard. The room is not facing the … Continue reading
For dinner, Katya and I went to Koraku-en, a ramen noodle restaurant. The restaurant is in a walking distance from our ex-apartment, but Katya and I had not been there together (I have been there for a couple of times, while Katya in Vladivostok). It is a standard ramen restaurant. Katya ordered dandan noodles, and I, vegetable ramen with small fried rice and dumplings. I took all rice and we shared dumplings. The tastes were good; not surprising but satisfactory. We took mango pudding and chocolate ice cream for dessert. It was a good dinner.
In the morning, Katya and I had breakfast at Jonathan’s. An extremely powerful typhoon, #17, is coming to Japan. It is the biggest one in years. In the afternoon, it started raining. At around 6 PM, the typhoon arrived in Toba, Mie prefecture, where we stayed in July. We had a Jingisukan BBQ again for dinner. Katya prepared a lot of vegetables this time. Last evening, Katya put four snails inside the sea-water fish tank. They look healthy. It is 9 PM, the wind got stronger.
From the window of the room in Keihanna Plaza Hotel, only a parking lot was seen. I had breakfast on the first floor. Then I left the hotel. I walked to Shimadzu laboratory. Keihanna is a new city from the late 20th, so the streets were new, too. In the laboratory, the student and I worked all day. After coming back to the hotel, I bought a dinner for the student in a French restaurant “la Saine” on the second floor. The dishes were not expensive, but the tastes were real.
Today is Sunday. In the morning, Katya and I had brunch at Gusto. Then all of us went up the mountain to Itajiki gorge in Kofu, which Katya had happened to find. By the gorge, there was a short hiking course less than a kilometer long. Right after the entrance, Shirokami waterfall welcomed us. Roads were sometimes rocky but mostly pleasant. At the end of the hiking course, there was Otaki waterfall. The differential level is 30 m; the fall was not huge, but it was worth visiting. The mists made us feel cool. The water from the gorge flows into Arakawa Dam. We came back home. Katya and … Continue reading
