Welcome party at Monojiya
There was a welcome party of a research group in the institute. I went into a narrow side street, “Chochin Yokocho” near Kofu Station. I walked up into a building. Looks weird. We had the party at Monojiya. They made the inside old and cheap as in the 60s. The party started at 7 PM. I sneaked out at 8 PM to see Katya and Mariya.

Visitors to the institute
Thirty scientists from abroad visited our institute. I helped them with the lab tour. One of them from the Netherlands was very interested in my research, and he will get in touch with me after coming back home. I hope it will be a fruitful collaboration.

Sunday Conference at Tokyo Institute of Technology
Several years ago, I received a fund from an engineering association. I had been asked to give a talk at a conference about the research performed by using the fund , but I was not able to do so because of the schedules. Today, Sunday, I managed to attend Tokyo Institute of Technology where the conference was held. My talk was scheduled from 2:35 PM, so I arrived at the building before 2 PM. I gave a 15-minute talk. I hope it interested the attendees, although the field might not be exactly of theirs. After my talk, I left the conference venue to take trains, which I changed at Maguro. … Continue reading

Kobe, Kawasaki, Shinjuku
I checked out “Sun Members Kobe” in the morning. I took breakfast at UESHIMA coffee shop located under the monorail station in Sannomiya. After taking a monorail, I arrived at the conference center at 9:30 AM. I gave a 20-minute talk from 10:20 AM and quickly left the conference hall and took a monorail back to Sannomiya. From Osaka, I took a plane back again to Haneda. There were vacant seats inside. After arriving at Haneda Airport, I moved to Kawasaki for a research report meeting of our institute. After the meeting in Kawasaki, I headed for Shinjuku this time for a real-estate meeting. After the meeting in Shinjuku, I … Continue reading

Preparing a paper for submission
I want to submit a paper before going to a conference in Hawaii, so I am working on it. The paper is being prepared with a collaboration of an American professor. Working with him makes me recognize that I am not a native English speaker, anyway. I can make my researches understood in English accurately enough, but it is more like a manual (and it is important, too). His English is vivid. Probably, this would not be learned any more. Anyway, after an evening nap, I will go to my office and work overnight.

New Russian Instrument and Jingisukan BBQ Party
Technicians have been working on the installation of a new instrument for four days. It has finally been settled down. It is an instrument imported from Russia. I first knew the instrument in September 2010, and it finally arrived. The machine has a very unique function, and I hope it can be useful for our researches. In the evening, there was a Jingisukan BBQ party held by students in the garden of the institute. About 15 participants. It was a pity that the ex-student of mine, who sent us the meat, was busy and was not able to show himself. Anyway, we thankfully enjoy the meat.

First day of the trip to Ito, Izu peninsula
It is Saturday today. In the morning, I was attending a meeting, in which our master-grade students presented their research results obtained in half a year, while Katya took Maya-san to Shimosuwa by Smart. She left Maya-san to my parents and drove back home. We met at our apartment and left together for Ito city in Izu peninsula. On the way to Ito, we first dropped by the central post office in Kofu to receive the doughnuts, which had delivered home while we were out. Then we drove all the way to Hotel Ito Powell, an old hotel by the sea. We arrived at 5 PM. The room on the … Continue reading

Chinese student works with me
Two lectures on Tuesday as usual. When I was about to leave after the first class, a Malaysian girl student came to ask a question of me. After the explanation, I asked her how much she understands my lecture. “30%”. Gee, I was disappointed! Of course, I expected a little more than that. I hope it should not be because of my English, or, should I wish so? Anyway, I have some more chances of recovery. After the lab tour in the afternoon, the Chinese student liked my research. So he will work with me during his stay. I hope he will enjoy this opportunity more than 30%.
