Student’s souvenir from Italy

A master degree student came back from his trip to Italy. He brought me a box of chocolates. It could be the first time to be given Italian chocolates for a souvenir. I opened the box. It was a fig chocolate, with a rich taste. The student is now analyzing and arranging his data before his graduation.

Work after the business trip, Students abroad

After the business trips, I always become busy because of the jobs not having been finished during the trip. Today, therefore, I was busy again. The student who is graduating with his master’s degree is now in Italy. The one who is getting his bachelor’s and who went to Kyoto together with me has left for Australia. These are the last trips before the graduation. I hope they are having a good time.

Lazy Sunday on January 29, 2012

Katya, me, and Maya-san got up late this morning. I was working whole day, because of the business trip tomorrow. I need to finish some duties. In the evening, we went to Jonathan’s.      While we were having dinner outside, Maya-san enjoyed a one-dog party, which she had not been holding for a while. We scolded her as a rule as usual. She stayed alone for a while. Then we are having a lazy evening. Now Nadal and Djokovic in the Australian open. Katya likes Nadal and worries whether he wins. She checks the game once in a while on the internet. We are watching Takeshi’s Castle.

Buying a Russian instrument

The two business trips left me a lot of works to be done. So I worked today. One thing I am doing is preparing a document for purchasing a Russian instrument for the department; I happened to find this unique instrument and was applying for buying one. It was approved. It is an expensive instrument, and I need to do some preresearch, too. I hope to finish the document tomorrow.

Tiring week, Mamma Mia! evening

I went on business trips last Saturday and Sunday. I went to Tokyo yesterday, too. This week was tiring. This evening, Katya, Natalia, and I saw the “Mamma Mia!” DVD. It is a good movie to see together.  Katya told me that ABBA was popular in USSR, too. I wonder how people could think of a movie like this. Katya and I saw it at least four times. Although we see the movies together, our favorite ones are sometimes different. I love “Kill Bill vol. 1” the best, far the best among all the movies.  The second one is “Shaolin Soccer“. Katya does not like “Kill Bill”, although she accepts “Pulp … Continue reading

Business Trip to Kyoto – 2nd day –

Today, I left the hotel to Yoshida Campus of  Kyoto University.  It is one of the best universities in Japan. Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology has constructed a research network, and Kyoto University has been equipped with various instruments to be used by universities and companies.  A researcher and I checked the possibility of coming to Kyoto for experiments. Unfortunately, the apparatuses they have might not be adequate for our research. I took a bullet train from Kyoto to Nagoya. In Nagoya, I changed trains to Shiojiri, and from Shirojiri, to Kofu. It took nearly five hours. On the way from Kofu station to our apartment, Katya, … Continue reading

Business trip to Tokyo

It was a beautiful day. I went to Shibuya, Tokyo, in the morning to visit the real estate agency to prepare the documents for the contract between me and the new tenant of my studio in Nakaochiai. From Shinjuku to Shibuya, I took a train.  In the stations, I noticed no foreigners; everybody was Asian, and I heard  neither Chinese nor Korean.  It was very unusual and weird in Tokyo.  Outside of Shibuya, I noticed very few foreigners, too. The young man in the office preparing the documents with me was from Minami Soma city, destroyed by tsunami and close to the power plant.  He said he took all his … Continue reading

October 2006, My visit again to Vladivostok

I took a couple-of-day trip in October to Vladivostok; Katya told me it is the best season.  I stayed at Vlad Motor Inn again.  Katya, Katya’s parents, her brother,  Maya-san, and I went out for a forest picnic.  It was a sunny, pleasant day. It was a good place by a small river.  Leaves were all colored.  Maya-san enjoyed running. We all came together to the place in Katya’s father’s car.  I brought from Japan some films for rear-view mirrors preventing rain drops. I put them on Katya’s car. Katya’s parents prepared a huge BBQ, which tasted good.  They brought a lot of vodka, too. Before coming to Vladivostok, I … Continue reading

January 2006, Our Encounter in China

On the way back home from my sabbatical in Illinois to Japan, I dropped by Ghangzhou, China for a visit to a lab and for my rest before going back to work.  I stayed at “Victory Hotel”, where Katya happened to stay.  She was traveling around China to see the country.  She already spoke Chinese, then. On the day of arrival, I met her and invited her to dinner at a restaurant in the hotel.  I remember we had a whole fish.  She was used to eating Chinese food, and we had meals spicy. The following day, we decided to have a one-hour bus trip to Zhongshan city.  This is … Continue reading

Muravej started working, Katya made shelves

I started working today.  Because I did not finish all the duties before the vacation, I worked hard. Katya starts her job on 6th, so she stayed home today. When I was back home, she asked me what I found in the dining room.  I said I saw a new calendar. It was a calendar Katya brought from Vladivostok. “Yes, it is, but what else?” And I found shelves on the wall! She wanted them on the wall, but I did not do it, so Katya did it herself.  Good for her! Katya likes old volkswagens, and she put three on the higher shelf.  On the lower shelf is  a … Continue reading
