Friend arrives from Kumamoto

It was a beautiful day. Dogwood was beautiful in the garden of the institute. Dogwoods were sent to Japan from Washington D.C. in1915 after the present of cherry trees from Tokyo in 1912. Dogwoods are now seen all over Japan. In Kofu, they are beautiful in this season of the year. In the evening an ex-colleague of mine came to Kofu from Kumamoto to celebrate the tomorrow’s wedding of my ex-student/present colleague. The ex-colleague from Kumamoto, the other ex-student/present colleague, and I had dinner together at Ohajiki, a well-known chicken restaurant in Kofu. Autumn Equinox Day on Hatsushima Island

We stayed one night at my parents’ in Shimosuwa. Today is Autumn Equinox Day, a national holiday. We had breakfast at my parents’. Maya-san stayed in Shimosuwa, and Katya and I drove to Atami.  It was a bit cloudy. On the way from Tokyo to Yamanashi, on the opposite way from ours, there was a traffic jam.  People in Tokyo have difficulties driving out. Sunflowers in Akeno, Hokuto city, Yamanashi

Sunflowers in Akeno, Hokuto, Yamanashi are well-known. Today is the first day of “Sun Flower Festa“. It takes less than an hour by car, so we went there. I saw a bee gathering honey from a sunflower. It stayed on the moving flower, with its body covered with pollen. The picture might look nice, but it was just a small-sized field. Katya and I had expected something enormous and were disappointed. Maya-san was happy because she saw goats. I bought two bottles of honey there. After coming back home, Katya gave Maya-san an imitation bone to have her chew it.
