Student’s souvenir from Italy
A master degree student came back from his trip to Italy. He brought me a box of chocolates. It could be the first time to be given Italian chocolates for a souvenir. I opened the box. It was a fig chocolate, with a rich taste. The student is now analyzing and arranging his data before his graduation.

Students were awarded
From 5 PM this evening, there was a party for the bachelors and masters who are getting their degrees. Awards were given to those students who performed good presentations. The master student of mine received the 4th out of 60, and the bachelor student the 2nd out of 70. Wasn’t I proud of them! I helped them a lot, which was rewarded.

Students’ theses
It was a snowy day today. Katya and I might go skiing this weekend. Two of my students are busy preparing for the graduation. A PhD student is getting ready for the final defense of Monday. It will be in English. He wrote papers in English and attended international conferences. He is a smart guy, so he should be OK. A master degree student is less experienced. I have been reading his thesis all day. He wrote a lot (in Japanese), but with less care and consideration. It was not enjoyable hours to correct his manuscript.
