Sunday in honolulu
I got on the plane at 8:30 PM. The plane left Narita at 9:15 PM. I was sleepy and decided to sleep instead of working, but it was not very successful; I slept for one or two hours. More than 90% of the passengers was Japanese. The plane arrived at 9 AM in Honolulu. I found a colleague of mine. We took a shuttle bus to Hilton Hawaiian Village. It was a fine, pleasant day. I arrived at the hotel at 10 AM, but I needed to wait until 11 AM for the room to be ready. The room in Tapa Tower is standard. The room is not facing the … Continue reading

Run for Upgrade!
I woke up 4:30 AM. The bus to Incheon International Airport left the hotel at 5:30 AM. I arrived at the airport at 6:40 AM. I checked in using an automated check-in machine, then I went to Seven-Eleven on the first floor to buy candies to the office workers and my students of the institute. I went through the immigration, and then looked around shops in the airpot to look for souvenirs for Katya. Before the departure, I spent my time in a Sky Team lounge, taking a light breakfast. Then I got on a Delta plane for Honolulu bound for Narita. I took a seat, half asleep. A male … Continue reading

A hot day before Katya’s departure
It was again a hot day in Kofu. Katya is leaving for Vladivostok tomorrow. This afternoon, we went to Kofu station to buy a bus ticket to Narita. Katya showed me how to feed fish and how to change water in the tank. She also told me how to water roses. She was busy packing. Maya-san watched Katya and understood she is leaving. Maya-san became sad.

Katya’s return schedules
Vladivostok Air withdrew from Japan at the end of March, and Aeroflot took its part. However, Aeroflot did not succeed the route from Narita to Vladivostok. How is Katya going to be back to Vladivostok? I called to Delta today with a hope to use my miles for Aeroflot flights. They found one route using only 25,000 miles: Narita – Moscow – Vladivostok! Unfortunately, the flight is too long for Katya, who has only a two-week break. Korean Air is a choice. But she needs to stay one night in Seoul. Besides, seats are already limited by the Japanese visitors to Korea during the summer vacation. Also, they will not … Continue reading

Farewell to Chengdu
I woke up at 5 AM, checked e-mails, got packed, and left the hotel by bus at 6:30 AM for the airport with five other Japanese professors. We arrived a little bit early for the check-in time, so we had breakfast at McDonald’s. They sell rice porridge in China, but I had an egg McMuffin, because I wanted to eat something different. At the entrance of the airport, we found a souvenir shop “旅の佳品”, or “Chosen Goods for Travels”, only selling Japanese goods. On the internet, I found that this shop is run by a Japanese company. The plane left the airport at 9 AM. It was a smooth flight. … Continue reading

Business trip to Chengdu
In the morning, I attended meetings as usual. I left Kofu for Narita at 12:30 PM and arrived at the airport at 3:30 PM. The ANA plane directly flying to Chengdu, China, was small and filled with travelers, mostly Chinese. A strong wind blew against the plane, and the body much trembled. It was not a pleasant flight, but the service was much better than that of JAL Cabin attendants were kind enough and helpful. The dinner was simple, standard, and acceptable. Four other members joining the forum were on the same plane, which arrived in Chengdu at 11:30 AM. It was rainy. The temperature was close to that in … Continue reading

Natalia left
We woke up at 7:30 AM. We took breakfast together. Then all of us, including Maya-san, went to Kofu station. Natalia gave me a hug and rode on the bus with Katya. Then the bus left Kofu. Katya took care of Natalia in Narita Airport. They had lunch, and Natalia left Japan for Vladivostok. While they were at the airport, I was working in the office with Maya-san. Katya came back home at 6:15 PM. She was tired. Katya called to Vladivostok to find that Natalia had safely arrived home. Good. Katya and I went out walking to a Chinese restaurant, Manpuku Roh, on the Takeda street. Katya had ramen … Continue reading

Katya and Natalia back in Kofu
Katya and Natalia took a plane early afternoon and left Saipan for Narita. From Narita, they took a direct bus to Kofu Station. Maya-san and I came to pick them up. At the station, Maya-san knew whom she was waiting for. Katya and Natalia arrived at 11:30 PM, nearly midnight. Maya-san kissed them, especially Katya. I drove them home. They gave me a T-shirt and chocolates. Katya showed me a lot of pictures. All pictures looked beautiful and fun, on the land and in the sea. Then, Katya and Natalia went to sleep quickly and peacefully.
Katya and Natalia went to Saipan
After lunch at home, I took Katya and Natalia to the station, where they took a bus at 2:15 PM to Narita Airport. The bus arrived at the airport before 6 PM, and the plane left at 8 PM. They will arrive in Saipan at midnight. They will stay there for four nights. We will talk on Skype. I am very much looking forward to hear them.
Staying in Narita
Travel to Narita via Detroit was OK. I slept well in the planes. The plane arrived safely in Narita. I am now staying at ANA Crown Plaza Narita; there will be held a real estate seminar in Tokyo tomorrow. Since hotels in Narita are very cheap, I decided to stay one night. The room is clean and comfortable. I do not have a heavy jet lag. I will be perfect tomorrow.
